Background:

The Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Infrastructure Development Activity is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by PAE, an Amentum company. The initiative aims to address farmers’ infrastructure needs by investing in rural roads, market centers, collection centers, cold storage facilities, and irrigation systems. Through these investments, the project aims to boost incomes, create employment, minimize crop losses, enhance agricultural productivity, and fortify food security.

The program focuses on five main objectives:

  1. Improve access to markets for agricultural produce, inputs, and services by enhancing transportation and building the capacity of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to maintain rural roads.
  2. Enhance post-harvest handling and storage facilities for agricultural produce.
  3. Increase women’s participation in markets.
  4. Engage the private sector to maximize the project’s impact.
  5. Develop operation and maintenance capacity at the markets.

Position Overview:

PAE/Amentum is excited to invite applications for its Women’s Engineering Internship Program as part of the USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Infrastructure Development Activity. The program focuses on the career development of women in engineering within the Bangladesh construction sector. Ideal candidates are recent graduates in civil engineering or related fields, passionate about establishing a career in the Bangladesh construction sector. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in civil construction-related activities and offers mentorship from experienced Infrastructure Project Managers.

Responsibilities of the Selected Interns:

Interns will closely collaborate with PAE/Amentum’s technical team and report to the Activity’s Infrastructure Program Manager. Their roles include:

  • Regularly inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
  • Document and report any deviations, issues, or potential risks observed during site inspections.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing project plans, including drawings, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Contribute to the design and development of templates/tools for data collection.
  • Collaborate with Field Supervisory Engineers to align construction activities with project timelines.
  • Participate in quality control processes for construction materials and workmanship.
  • Inspect delivered materials for quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and construction workers to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Effectively communicate project requirements and expectations to the construction team.
  • Prepare regular progress reports on construction activities.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental regulations and safety protocols.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Engage with local communities affected by construction activities.
  • Facilitate community awareness programs related to the project.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops for learning and development.
  • Prepare meeting minutes, assist with social media content, and create infographics as required.
  • Perform other assigned tasks.

Deliverables:

  • Work with mentors to prepare a sample construction work plan outlining tasks, milestones, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Submit a detailed report upon completion of the internship.

Eligibility:

  • BSc or Diploma in Engineering (Civil) or related subject within the last 4 years.
  • Strong interest in a career in the Bangladesh construction sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proactive and collaborative team player.
  • Willingness to work at a construction site in rural areas and engage with local communities.
  • Proficient in Bengali and English (speaking, reading, and writing).

Logistic Details:

  • 3 internships available in different locations, with varying start dates from November 2023 to February 2024 and end dates between May and June 2024.
  • Locations: Upazila – Faridpur Sadar or Madhukhali, District – Faridpur.
  • No relocation assistance provided.
  • Interns required to be at the construction site office 40 hours per week, Sunday-Thursday.
