Background:
The Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Infrastructure Development Activity is a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by PAE, an Amentum company. The initiative aims to address farmers’ infrastructure needs by investing in rural roads, market centers, collection centers, cold storage facilities, and irrigation systems. Through these efforts, the Activity aims to enhance incomes, create jobs, reduce crop losses, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food security.
The program focuses on five main objectives:
- Increase access to markets for agricultural produce, inputs, and services by improving transportation and enhancing the capacity of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to maintain rural roads.
- Improve post-harvest handling and storage of agricultural produce by enhancing access to facilities and improving the operation and maintenance of aggregation and storage facilities.
- Enhance women’s participation in markets and engage the private sector to maximize the impact of the Activity.
- Build operation and maintenance capacity at the markets.
Position:
PAE/Amentum is currently seeking a full-time Structural Engineer. The selected candidate will work in PAE/Amentum’s Dhaka office with occasional travel to job sites in Faridpur for measurements and relevant information. The Structural Engineer will collaborate with professionals to clarify design specifications, produce detailed engineering designs, and ensure accuracy and adherence to standards. Responsibilities include structural analysis, design, and support for various construction projects under the guidance of the Design Manager.
Key Responsibilities of the Structural Engineer:
- Conduct structural analysis and design for multiple projects, including buildings, market sheds, collection centers, roads, and drainage systems.
- Study relevant documents such as standard designs, gender analysis, and environmental monitoring plans to incorporate into designs.
- Support site selection and assist in developing preliminary design drawings and cost estimates.
- Prepare terms of reference for survey firms, review survey reports, and recommend actions to the Design Manager.
- Assist the Environmental Specialist in developing environmental monitoring and mitigation plans.
- Develop detailed construction drawings, specifications, and design reports.
- Perform structural design studies and prepare design calculations.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, bills of quantities, and material specifications.
- Collaborate with the CAD Operator for detailed structural design drawings.
- Assist construction subcontractors with shop drawings and as-built drawings.
- Respond to comments from the Amentum home office and USAID/GP tech comments on detailed designs.
- Complete other assigned duties.
Duration:
PAE/Amentum is looking for a full-time Structural Engineer with immediate availability through November 2024.
Compensation:
Compensation will be determined based on experience, and the selected candidate will receive benefits, including floating holidays, sick leave, paid vacation days, and festival bonuses.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years of overall experience.
- Proficient in design software (e.g., STAAD, ETABS) and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of MS Office packages.
- English language skills (written and verbal).
- Only Bangladeshi nationals can apply.
